Grants/assistance from State Government:
The Government of Tamil Nadu sanction administrative grant annually to meet the administrative expenditure of the Tamil Nadu State Hajj Committee, which includes office establishment, payment of salaries to staff, etc. The administrative grant was enhanced from Rs.50.00 lakhs to Rs.80.00 lakhs from 2024-2025 onwards. A sum of Rs.80.00 lakhs has been sanctioned every year as administrative grant by the Government.
(b) State Government Haj Subsidy.During the year Haj 2018, the Government of Tamil Nadu has introduced a new scheme in which Haj Subsidy of Rs.6 crore was sanctioned for disbursement among the Haj pilgrims proceeding for pilgrimage through Tamil Nadu State Hajj Committee. For the year 2018 and 2019 3769 and 4397 respectively, Haj pilgrims were duly paid Rs.15,913/- and Rs.13639/- through their bank accounts. Due to Global outbreak of Covid 19, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has cancelled Haj pilgrimage for Haj 2020 and 2021. During Haj 2022, the Government enhanced this subsidy amount to Rs.10 Crore for 2022 and 2023 and Rs.27,628/- and Rs.26,070/- respectively was duly paid into the bank accounts for 1649 and 3987 Haj pilgrims respectively. In order to provide Rs.17,480/- to 5728 elgible beneficiaries in the year 2024, Rs.10,01,57,320/- has been sanctioned and disbursed by the Government. The Government has issued orders to the effect that a sum of Rs.25,000/- per haj pilgrim will be sanctioned as subsidy from the year Haj 2025 onwards.
c) Sanction of grant for State Haj Inspector (Previously Called as Haj Volunteer) & Building Selection TeamTamil Nadu State Hajj Committee deputes suitable persons as State Haj Inspector to Saudi Arabia every year to look after the welfare of the Haj pilgrims of Tamil Nadu. Haj Volunteer are selected in the ratio of 1 Haj volunteer for 150 pilgrims so that a State Haj Inspector travels in each flight and take care of the pilgrims throughout the pilgrimage. From the year 2018, female Haj volunteer can also apply for State Haj Inspector (Haj volunteers). The female State Haj Inspector are selected subject to maximum limit of 2% of total number of Haj volunteers. To support the State Haj Committees, 50% of the expenditure on the Haj volunteers shall be borne by Haj Committee of India and rest 50% shall be borne by State Government.
he Tamil Nadu State Hajj Committee deputes representative to the Building Selection Team for selecting suitable buildings at Makkah and Madinah for accommodating Haj pilgrims during Haj season. The expenditure in connection with the deputation is also sanctioned as grant to the Committee by the Government.
d) Other grants.The Government reimburses expenditure towards T.A./D.A. bills of members of Tamil Nadu State Hajj Committee in respect of their visits to attend the meetings of the Committee. The Government also reimburses expenditure towards T.A./D.A. bills of Hajj Committee officials for participation in All India Haj Conference and Hajj related meetings held by Haj Committee of India, Ministry of Minority Affairs and Ministry of Civil Aviation. Further, the Government sanctions grants every year as non-recurring expenditure towards purchase of machinery and equipments for the smooth functioning of the Tamil Nadu State Hajj Committee.
